BUY BOOKS NOT BOOTS
These words i constantly hear from a man I have come to respect so much. It simply means invest more in books than other material things.
I know how boring it is sometimes when you’re reading a book that has nothing attractive about it, like a boring front page or no illustrations inside it. So if you’re like me and you have decided to grow in knowledge.
Well, these are 7 WAYS you can enjoy reading books without getting bored, tested AND TRUSTED.
Now most people are busy with their everyday lives so reading a book can take up to 2 to 3 weeks, especially if it’s bulky and that makes it even more boring to read. Well since we have established here that reading good books puts you ahead in life. Many of the successful people today talk about how they’ve read this book or that book and they are still reading. Successful people like Bill Gates, mark Zuckerberg, oprah winfrey and on and on like that have repeatedly talked about how books play a vital role in success.
So lets get to it;
STEP 1: PICK A BOOK ACCORDING TO SEASON
Season as in the season of your life, you can’t be 18, 19 or 20 and be reading books about retirement plan or books on parenting. While both books are good, they aren’t for the season of your life. Most likely books on purpose, dating/single to married, business and so on. If you pick a book that’s far from your time/season you would soon get bored of it. Like the old saying; DON’T PUT THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE.
STEP 2: CHANGE YOUR MINDSET
If you already labelled a book boring, there’s a high chance you might not read it or start and not finish it. I never see a book I want/ need to read as boring. I wrote need because there are times where you would need to develop certain areas of your life and you have to read books. Remember; DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER.
STEP 3: READ WITH A TARGET
What I mean is, according to the title of the book have an expected outcome. For example “Rick Wareen’s -purpose driven life”, you know that by the time you are done you should have identified your purpose and have a drive to achieve it. I don’t mean some sort of magic will happen but well you won’t be where you were before you started.
STEP 4: PEN DOWN STRIKING WORDS
You know that feeling when you’re reading a book and they say something that hits you and you’re like ‘hmmmm’ (while nodding your head). Yes words like that tend to have a lasting impression, but it would soon be forgotten if not written down in a book where you can actually go back to it. The goal is for the book to make a difference right? Remember the faintest pen is sharper than the sharpest brain.
STEP 5: DON’T BE IN A HURRY
Don’t try to finish the book in a day, especially if it’s voluminous. You would miss the essence of the book, important parts and end up just wasting your time. Take your time.
STEP 6: SIT BACK AND HAVE A NICE SNACK
Enjoy the book, don’t make reading stiff. Even if the name sounds serious, make the book yours and own it! Settle down, if you feel sleepy grab a snack and eat your way into the book (except if you’re on a diet or something then eat fruits)
FINAL STEP: Tell someone about it, pass on the knowledge. The more you speak on it, the more it becomes a part of you and before you know it you’re practicing the things you’ve been reading.
NOTICE: please read good books, if books have been able to change people’s life positively it can also affect negatively. So choose good books that will add value to you.
HEY, I’M GLAD YOU REACHED THE END. THANKS FOR READING, I HOPE IT WAS HELPFUL.
